Construction phase:

Diagnosis and repair of a structure on Breteuil Street in Marseille's city centre

The causes were discovered following an in-depth structural diagnosis performed by AXIOLIS. Indeed, network leaks caused soil leaching and masonry damage. As a result, AXIOLIS oversaw geotechnical studies to evaluate whether geotechnical reinforcement was required in conjunction with superstructure reinforcement. AXIOLIS used connected sensors to monitor the actual movements of the two structures. Following an in-depth review of the data, it was determined that geotechnical reinforcements (resin injection) should be avoided because the superstructure work had greatly stabilized the structure.

The rehabilitation of the two buildings was done in accordance with the existing construction methods. To fill the spaces in the load-bearing walls, AXIOLIS used masonry regeneration techniques with lime grout. The voids were found to account for more than 15% of the volume of the walls.
Furthermore, a "gentle" structural reinforcement was carried out with the installation of a peripheral belt sealed into the facade, staying undetectable and keeping the facades' 19th-century elegance. This peripheral belt was linked to a tensioning system that ran from facade to facade.
